M52259 Can it flash itself through the BDM
« on: April 13, 2009, 09:44:23 PM »
We are currently working with 52233demo and we are wondering if either the 52233 or 52259 can flash itself.
Meaning can it flash new updates to the program.  If we use EZport this shuts the whole chip down but we were wondering if
the 52259 could do this.  If we had a program on a usb could we plug it in and have the 52259 flash it self from the usb key

Hi

I am not absolutely sure that I understand the question, but essentially the M5225x is compatible with the M52233 concerning programming capabilities.

If there is no code programmed to the chip it can only be programmed using EZport, BDM (or possibly JTAG). Once a program has been loaded updates are possible using a boot loader. The M5225X uTasker project supports loading new firmware via Ethernet or USB (but not from a memory stick but rather a CDC terminal upload).

The uTasker boot loader is described here:
http://www.utasker.com/docs/uTasker/uTaskerBoot_003.PDF and
http://www.utasker.com/docs/uTasker/BM-Booloader_for_M5223X.PDF
and the USB upload is described in the USB document:
